Still Waters Run Deep

We haven't posted much news in the last couple of months.  We've been dealing with the loss of a loved one, but inspite of all the associated difficulties involved, some good things have been happening too.  We have put a lot into the development of our Rockey Mountain Caps, and started to sell some of the early prototypes to help raise funds for better equipment, to bring you better caps.

An opportunity to pick up some excellent equipment presented itself, so we took the leap and bought some fantastic pressure equipment.  More on that soon.  Suffice to say for now that the quality of our caps will be taking a quantum leap forward.

With the new equipment, we have decided to really focus our efforts into our artisan keycaps.  We may still try to offer special, other products in the future in our shop, but we love making keycaps, so that's where we will be putting our energy.

Thanks for being interested enough in to read our news posts.  As a thank you, you can use code NEWS317 to get 20% off any purchase of $10 or more until Sunday.  Be on the lookout for other exclusive discounts available from our news posts in the future.

Keyboards For Sale! Cheap!

I remember when I was first getting into mechanical keyboards how tricky it was to find mechanical keyboards in Canada.  They're around, selection and number of sellers isn't what it is in our neighbor to the south.  We are super proud to be able to announce that we are another provider of mechanical keyboards in Canada.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on a limited supply of inexpensive, entry-level keyboards, and we're excited to be able to offer them to you, at an extremely good price.

The Mechanical Eagle Z-77 is an inexpensive ten-keyless mechanical keyboard by any standard.  They can be readily purchased on major retail websites for about $50 CAD.  We've got them for only $32.

Check out our Shop page for all the details, and scoop one up before they're gone!

Improvements to Shipping Policy

A couple of week ago we tried an experiment in offering Flat Rate Shipping.  We learned that our customers appreciated the lower pricing, but we also learned how easy it is to take a bath on the shipping charges because of the pricing structure of Canada Post.  At least one shipment cost more to ship than was charged for the cap plus shipping!

We want to say again that since we are a small operation, in a small market, in a small country, affordable shipping is still a feature we are striving to improve.  We breifly reconsidered offering free shipping, and building the shipping cost back into the price of our products.  It's a easy way to do it, but we would rather provide a more transparent pricing structure, and a better value for our customers.  And as we've recently learned, simply absorbing that cost is like paying to give out our goods, lol.

We care very much about offering fair pricing, so we will still be working on refining our shipping rates, and polices to offer you the very best overall value we can.  We will still absorb 100% of packaging costs, and in some cases a portion of the shipping charges.  We will still use almost entirely post-consumer packaging material (everything but the labels), which makes good sense for both our environment, and our customers.

Another low cost way to provide you with extra value is the introduction of our "Next Business Day Shipping Guarantee."  We pledge to that your order will ship out on the next business day (M-F), or we will send you a random novelty item at no additional charge.  These items may include hand made artisans, random keycaps, or other forthcoming novelty items.

Thank you for all your support and kind words.  We're very happy to be a part of the Mechanical Keyboard cummunity.  "Stay Clacky!" - Aaron -

Flat Rate Shipping Now Available

Being a small operation, in a small market, in a small country is a pretty unique situation.  Being new, we would love to offer free shipping but with the products that we currently have available we don't think it's fair to build that shipping cost back into the price of our products.  Simply absorbing that cost is also not an option either considering the low price of our products and the cost of Canada Post shipping.

We care very much about offering good products, at great prices, so we are pleased to announce that we've decided to offer a Flat Rate shipping option.  This means we will absorb 100% of packaging costs, and a portion of the shipping charges, in order to provide better value to you, our customers.

The other upside is that we will now be using almost entirely post-consumer packaging material (everything but the labels).

Faster options and trackable options for international shipments are still available.  If you're interested in Flat Rate shipping for your order simply select that from the shipping options.

Thanks very much for your business, and as always "Stay Clacky!" - Aaron -

O-Rings & Moving Pictures is please to announce that we are now offering o-rings!

Oh!  Rings!

Oh!  Rings!

Rubber o-rings dampen the feeling and sound that your keycaps make when bottoming out on the switches. They lower the travel distance of them, and can allow for a faster, and more comfortable typing experience.  Our new translucent silicone o-rings also allow for better light transmission for LED and RGB keyboards.

We have used the common black, blue and red o-rings, and have compared them to our new Translucent Silicone O-Rings.  We have found the dampening to be light, nimble, effective, and quite to our tastes.  They're what we're currently using on our boards.

There is a noticeable difference in both the feeling and the sound of the keycaps.  While we can't quite convey the feeling of them, we are to show you exactly what the sound difference is like thanks to our new Youtube channel!  Check it out, or have a look below.

Bags Were Grabbed, and There Was Unicorn Vomit

We were lucky enough to snag one the fabled Grab Bags from Pimp My Keyboard last week, and have been busily sorting ever since.  We've been piecing together some fun 60% key sets and have started to make them available!

The first set we pieced together is a DSA set we're calling "Granite Garbo."  It's a bit chromatically tighter than a traditional unicorn vomit set, it's still kind of a vomit set, let's call it a garbage set.  It's "Granite Garbo."

The second set, that we toiled over several iterations to bring you is a semi-sculpted SA set we're called "Sicksick Selectric."  It's based heavily on caps from Nantucket Selectric, it's not quite a unicorn vomit set, but it's close, and it is nautically themed.  It's "Seasick Selectric."

There's still plenty of sorting to do, and sets to put together.  Those will be coming soon.  In addition to unicorn vomit sets, we will likely soon be offering small kits of our caps from popular sets, SA and DSA individual blanks, and mini Grab Bags.  Check back soon for these and more products!

New Mold, New Profile, New Caps is proud to announce a new keycap blank profile:

New Artisan Keycap Blank Profile

The mold created last week is producing symmetrical, DIN standard height caps, with spherical tops, to compliment the style of Signature Plastic's much loved DSA profile.  Making this mold was a challenge full of surprises, but is producing some great looking keycap blanks.  The cap pictured here is the first cap through the mold.  The top is nicely textured, and the sides are uniformly smooth.  The challenge with hand making any keycap is getting a nice clean stem...

Great Looking Bottom

Our first run of caps called Blurple are now available on our Store page.

Lastly, we wanted to thank all of our early supporters whose kind works, ideas, and especially orders have helped us out tremendously as we march forward and make a great site!
